Lefthanded Gayang
A very old North Borneo "gayang" .
The wooden scabbard with nice carved details.
The curved non convex blade with nice krowit ( hooks)
and somewhat faded engravings.
The antler hilt with different design of both sides.
On front a spirit figure having one arm on his belly while on the left a head of an animal ( snake?) is looking out to scare away bad spirits or " antu's".
Scabbard has light restore.
This sword is made for a left-handed person.
Left handed mandaus and galants are not often seen.
North Sarawak
19th Century.
Size total: 70 cm.
Blade: 55 cm.
