A spectacular sword from Birdshead area of New Guinea. Such swords where made in South East Celebes from where traders exported them to the Moluccas.Some examples travelled further to the Raja Ampat and Papua.Normally the wooden ball is adorned with horse or human hair,this example however is in the style of Chendrawasih,done with casuarisfeathers,a feature what is highly rare.

The handle is made from horn , the blade is heavy with many layers.

Interesting to know is that the Tropenmuseum also have a loose ball for a sword what is also adorned with causarisfeathers.
