A very nice Dayak container probably for tobacco.
The gourd is elongated with an elegant shaped piece of deer antler.
The opening is closed with an artistic shaped antler lid.
At the bottom is a metal protrusion attached.
Some light damage at the edge of the opening.
This object is collected by photographer Jean Demmeni during one of the expeditions with A.W. Nieuwenhuis trough Central Borneo between 1894-1900. Later on Demmeni sold it to the artist W.O.J. Nieuwenkamp.
