A very old mandau from Kutai 

This is an example with " long chimney" on  rather small grip.

It has all features of the southern mandaus from mid 19th century.

Nice carved spirals as abstract eyes , above them the arms are visable.

On the " neck" has the normal protrusion a tiny gazing ghost face.

The scabbard in very good condition, adorned with tufts of hair and hornbill charm.

The place for the sideknife is filled with a old stick.

The "wing" of the scabbard with nice floral motif. 

Below the wing an original piece of fur.

The hairbundles on the lower end of the scabbard are fastened on a bamboo strip 

The blade is  convex and small and simple like the oldies from the south.

​A very good sword with lovely small details in very complete condition.
