Mandau Ngaju

Rare mandau from South West Borneo with antler carved hilt with horn protrusion.

The design of the carving is very special with fishes on both sides , hughe jaws, between a kind of gearbox-style motifs, while on the front a Buno (ritual spear ) motif can be seen.

As addition to create the wanted design the carved used an extra piece of horn.

The scabbard has a very nice rolling snake motif what is most likely inspiration from the West Borneo scabbards. The thick and heavy blade with fine brass inlays.

One knot has some restore further in very good condition.
