Mandau SB

An oldie from South East Borneo .

The handle carved in a theme that is typical for the area in old days where two figures are

placed on each side of the handle . Here the two square Kayan faces are placed on upraised arms above a boars like face, this all to scare away antu's , evil spirits .

The convex blade with raised rib on the back .

The scabbard with a beautiful carved panel with aso heads.

The wickery in the mid section is enormous complex with a plaited joint between the two "pusut pao" ( deer navel) sheet lashings.

Nice toggle on silk cord and original Pisau Raut.

 19th century

Size total: 70,5 cm
