A very good Nias baluse of traditional shape, carved from wood enforced with rattan bands.

The patina is splendid, even the “ tumbprint " of the warrior on the back shows that the shield must have been used for a long time.

The shield has been bought from the housekeeper of an ex-KNIL militair who was stationed on the West Coast of Sumatra from 1907 to 1910.
