Shield Sulawesi
A wooden shield from the Toraja of the Luwu area.
Beautiful made example of high quality.
The classic design with two sun wheels as eyes while the buffalo horns are the mouth.
Wooden shields from this area are extremely scarce.
Grubauer wrote about the shields he collected in his book " Under kopfjägern in Central Celebes"
that he was able to score only one example of nice decorated wooden examples.
Condition is very good, one old damage in the left upper corner and one small glued crack.
The handle must have been broken once and has an old primitive restore.
Sulawesi - Luwu district
