Sarawak tigercat

Old Dayak statue from Sarawak representing the mythical tiger with snake.

The clinch of the upper world ( tiger) with the underworld ( snake) is a classic theme in Dayak iconography. Statues like this are often made for special ceremonies. 

The statue has a patina from standing a long time in the longhouse complete with light damages ,cracks and even a primitive restore.  

Sarawak,around 1900, most likely Kayan from Baram or Tinjar area.

Very scarce.
